This week First Grade has learned about how the Earth rotates around the sun. This afternoon we used this beautiful weather to experiment with our shadows and how they change throughout the day! We traced our shadows at 10:00 AM, 12:30 PM and at 2:30 PM.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BRISTEN ROBERTSON, 7TH GRADE, ARNETT JR HIGH SCHOOL!!! Bristen’s SUNSET poster, “A CLEAN land is a GREEN land”, (see attached), won 3rd Place in the 2022 statewide TRASH POSTER CONTEST! It will represent the month of November in the upcoming 2023 Trash Poster Calendar. Bristen wins $150.00 for 3rd Place; recognition at the Oklahoma State Capitol; a T-Shirt of Bristen’s SUNSET poster design, and other contest items. Bristen’s teacher, Sally Wheeler, wins $75.00 for classroom Art supplies and a 2-Day Oklahoma State Parks Voucher. 4,635 posters entered this contest statewide this year. TPC State Judging was Friday, March 4, 2022. A Trash Poster Contest Awards Event will be held to honor the 14 State Winners and Teachers on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation, 200 NE 21st Street, OKC 73105. State Winners and their immediate Families, Winning Teachers, and respective School Principals are invited to attend. After lunch, Event attendees will be transported to the Oklahoma State Capitol by 1:00pm. State Winners will be recognized by the House/Senate at 1:45pm, and respective Legislators will present each student winner a Legislative Citation.

The 2022 Wildlife Youth Camp is June 12 - 17 at the OU Biological Station. The deadline to apply is April 15th, see details below on how to apply. Who should attend? Youth camp is competitively open to all Oklahoma youth 14 to 16 years old. All applying youth must have been enrolled in school the previous year and have an interest in fish and wildlife law enforcement or management. What will you learn? Fishing, self-defense, wildlife law enforcement, archery, wildlife identification, rifle/shotgun shooting, ropes course, wildlife management, and more. Biology I has been studying several units over genetics. They are currently experimenting with hybrid tobacco seeds with one normal and one albino gene to illustrate how the environment will affect the expression of the phenotype. This will continue for 2-3 weeks.
