And just like that, our first full week of school is in the books! The halls and classrooms at Arnett Public Schools are already buzzing with activity, and it is exciting to see our students settling into another year of learning, growing, and getting involved.
Our 8th grade agriculture students kicked off the year with a hands-on lesson in baby pig processing and early piglet care. Students learned about proper handling while gaining practical experience in real-world swine production. Experiences like these give our students an opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to real situations. The hands-on learning continued with 7th and 8th grade students completing an FFA Emblem cookie lab. After learning about each part of the FFA emblem and what it represents, students created their own versions using sugar cookies and candy. It looks like learning about agriculture can be pretty sweet!
FFA families and students also have something to look forward to later this month. The Arnett FFA Annual Ice Cream Social will be held Wednesday, August 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Arnett Pool. The evening will include hot dogs, chips, drinks, and ice cream, along with an informational partner meeting and a livestock booster meeting. It will be a great opportunity for FFA families to enjoy an evening together while learning more about the program and upcoming opportunities.
There is plenty happening outside the classroom as well. The high school baseball team picked up an exciting victory over Sweetwater, with senior Jackson Mann hitting a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the win. That's certainly one way to make a baseball game memorable!
Our students are also finding ways to support the activities they love. The Arnett Robotics Team is raising funds to help keep BEST Robotics alive and thriving, with funds going toward the HUB and Regional Competition. https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/team/arnett-robocats
Arnett TSA is also fundraising to help support students as they attend State and Leadership Conferences. In addition, TSA students are selling Arnett license plates for $10 each. Anyone interested in purchasing one is asked to contact Mr. McDonald.
It may have only been the first full week of school, but our Wildcats are already busy learning, competing, creating, and representing Arnett. We are looking forward to seeing where all of this hard work takes our students this year!
