The last week of October proved to be the busiest week yet for Arnett students this year. The Wildcats participated in a wide variety of activities including a Kenny Farms Field Trip, Red Ribbon Week, Halloween festivities, a robotics competition, the Beta Club Leadership Summit, and the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

Throughout the week, students dressed up in themed outfits to celebrate Red Ribbon Week and show their commitment to being drug-free. On Monday, they wore pajamas for the theme “Give drugs a rest and solve life’s puzzles drug free.” Tuesday’s theme was “Teamwork solves the puzzle,” and students showed their spirit by wearing their favorite team gear. Wednesday was wacky day with the theme “Be your own piece of the puzzle, stand out drug free.” On Thursday, students wore clothing representing their future careers or colleges with the theme “Your future is missing the piece.” The week ended on Friday with students wearing their Halloween costumes. Elementary students joined in the fun by parading through the school to show off their costumes before enjoying classroom parties.

Twenty Arnett BETA Club members and four sponsors traveled to Grapevine, Texas, to attend the Beta Leadership Summit held at the Great Wolf Lodge. While there, they took part in two leadership sessions and competed in four leadership challenges. Their hard work paid off as they qualified for the National Convention to be held next summer in Nashville, Tennessee. The group had to hurry back home so that some of the students could participate in the robotics competition held in Alva.

The Arnett Robotics team had a successful run at their competition. They competed in marketing, informal exhibit, and game day. The HS team brought home 2nd in the overall BEST competition. The robot competition was a tight one. The JH team was leading early on, but the HS rallied and came out on top. After very close final rounds, AHS HS placed first, Burlington HS placed second, and Arnett JH placed third. The top three teams qualify for regionals in Wichita, KS, December 6th and 7th.

Meanwhile, five members of the Arnett FFA Chapter traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to attend the National FFA Convention. This annual event brings together FFA members, advisors, and supporters from across the nation to celebrate achievements in agriculture and leadership. The convention includes competitions, workshops, keynote speakers, career expos, and award ceremonies that help students develop leadership skills, promote agricultural education, and recognize excellence within the FFA organization.

Although she was unable to attend the ceremony in person, Arnett alumnus Talara Brown earned her American FFA Degree, one of the organization’s highest honors. To receive this award, members must complete a set of rigorous requirements, including performing community service, demonstrating leadership, and earning and investing money through a Supervised Agricultural Experience project.

The Arnett Speech, Drama, and Debate team was awarded a $500 grant from Invenergy Services, after Mrs. Knowles submitted an application. Lisa Powell, senior manager of local and community affairs for Invenergy presented the check. Invenergy offers local grant programs tied to specific projects or regions.
