Busy Week of Events at Arnett Schools as Year-End Approaches

This past week was packed full of activities for Arnett students, from field trips and sports tournaments to special events like the FFA State Convention and the Beta Club’s sponsored Trash Pick Up Day.

Weather challenges added to the excitement, as the State Softball Tournament was postponed until Monday, May 12th, making schedule adjustments necessary. Despite the changes, students, staff, and parents navigated the busy week with great energy.

The 4th through 6th grade classes enjoyed a field trip to Oklahoma City’s Riversport Adventures, where they tackled rock walls, ropes courses, and river rafting — a day full of fun and adventure.

Friday was especially full, beginning with seniors practicing for baccalaureate and participating in their senior walk. Afterwards, everyone gathered to cheer on the freshmen during the annual boat races. The afternoon was spent outside, with elementary students enjoying the playground and high school students playing kickball.

The week wrapped up with students and staff giving back during the Beta Club’s community Trash Pick Up Day, showing appreciation for the town that continually supports the school district.

As the school year draws to a close, excitement is building for graduation and summer plans. If you see a senior around town, be sure to offer a word of encouragement or congratulations as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives!

This week's Farmer's and Merchant's Bank "Banking on a Wildcat" goes to Harley Shoaf. Harley's teacher's had this to say about her: Harley has high standards for herself and doesn't look back once she has set a goal for herself. She is a fierce competitor, not shying away from new or lofty challenges. Harley is committed academically, literally jumps for joy for her teammates, and is headstrong to succeed. Congratulations, Harley!

State Golf Tournament

Cadie McCracken, Harley Shoaff, and their teammates from Thomas-Fay-Custer High School took to the greens Monday for the first round of the class 2A State Golf Tournament, held at Winter Creek Golf Club in Blanchard.

Unfortunately, the second round scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled due to inclement weather, and the final standings were determined based on Monday’s scores. While the team did not place in the medal standings, we commend their hard work and sportsmanship throughout the season.

Congratulations to all the players for representing their school with pride.

OSDE Office of School Support Visits Arnett Schools as Model of Success

Arnett Public Schools welcomed a special visit from the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s Office of School Support. The visit, held on April 29, spotlighted Arnett as a model school for academic and operational excellence.

A team from the Office of School Support spent the day observing classrooms, touring the campus, and conducting interviews with administrators, faculty, and students. Their goal was to gain insight into the strategies, culture, and practices that have contributed to Arnett’s ongoing success.

“It was an honor to host the OSDE team,” said Shannon Shoaf, Elementary Principal at Arnett Schools. “We’re proud of the work our staff and students do every day, and we’re always eager to share and learn alongside other schools across the state.”

The visit serves as part of a broader initiative by the OSDE to identify and replicate successful models of school improvement and student achievement throughout Oklahoma. By gathering firsthand accounts and best practices from high-performing schools like Arnett, the Office of School Support aims to strengthen educational outcomes across the state.

Arnett 6th Graders Complete Country Projects in Social Studies

Arnett 6th grade students have been busy wrapping up their country projects in social studies. Each student selected four out of seven available project options to complete, allowing them to explore different aspects of their chosen country in creative and engaging ways.

The projects showcased a variety of research, creativity, and presentation skills as students shared what they learned with their classmates.

Lexi Gaisford reported on Peru.

Landon McCartor gave his presentation on Brazil.

Norah Bryant studied Germany.

Arnett Mentoring Program Students Enjoy Trip to Top Golf

Students in the Arnett Mentoring Program recently took a field trip to Top Golf in Oklahoma City to celebrate another successful year of leadership and support.

The Arnett Mentoring Program, which began in 2019, was designed to help incoming seventh graders navigate the transition from elementary school to the high school building — a time that can often be challenging for students. Through the program, upperclassmen apply to serve as peer mentors and are paired with seventh-grade students to offer guidance, encouragement, and weekly check-ins.

Each year, seventh graders eagerly anticipate finding out who their mentor will be, and the positive impact of the program continues to grow. The Top Golf trip served as a fun way to reward both mentors and mentees for their commitment to building strong connections and supporting one another throughout the school year.
