This past week started off busy even though there was no school for our students. Our teachers worked in their classrooms for a P.D. day while several of our students traveled to Shattuck for the Ellis Co. Livestock show with their livestock projects. Several of our students placed and did very well with their projects.
Tuesday our high school basketball teams played in Erick Sweetwater to finish out the regular season games. Our girls won, and the boys also won by one point after a nail biting finish.
The Arnett Biology, Biology 2, and Physical Science Classes participated in the Regional Science Fair at NWOSU in Alva on Thursday. It was the first time for these students to do an upper level science fair project and take it to competition. It was an amazing learning experience for them all. Several projects placed in the top three. There were also a couple of honorable mentions, one special award, two state qualifying projects, and one scholarship received.
Zanston Clark & Dayson West received the NASA Earth System Science Award for their project on Fertilizer Affecting Algae Growth.
Nicolas Sant’Anna, Dodger Sloan, and Lincoln Coleman placed 2nd in Behavioral and Social Sciences and qualified for the State Science Fair with their project, “Do Video Games Affect Real-life Skills?”
Canon Hardin and John Campbell placed 2nd in Biomedical & Health Sciences and qualified for the State Science Fair with their project, “Range of Motion”
On Friday, Rylee Keith, Alyssa Smith, Canon Hardin & Jentri Eastep had the opportunity to compete in an Anatomage Tournament at SWOSU on Friday. They had to identify body parts on a state-of-the-art virtual cadaver table.
In 5th grade science, the 5th graders have been working hard on learning all about our solar system. They each had to build their own 3D model of our solar system outside of the classroom, while in the classroom they worked on a 3D paper mache model as a class. They also created their own slideshow over each individual planet. After finishing it up, they presented their solar system projects to the elementary classes.
