Jamie

The 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year for Arnett Public Schools is Ms. Jamie Landers. Ms. Landers has taught at Arnett Elementary for the past 15 years, where she currently teaches 4th, 5th, and 6th grade math, as well as 4th grade Writing and Social Studies.

Jamie graduated from Arnett High School in 1988. She continued her education at Murray State College for two years on a basketball scholarship. She then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated with her BSE in 1992. After 12 years working as an Executive Assistant, Jamie accepted the position as 4th grade teacher at Arnett Schools in 2008. It was important to Jamie to raise her daughters, Caitlin and Molly, in the same small town she was raised in, and they also graduated from Arnett High School.

Ms. Landers is known for being a tough, but fair teacher. She instills in her students the importance of responsibility and strives to teach them the skills it takes to be independent thinkers and humans.  More than anything, Ms. Landers wants her students to leave her classroom and Arnett High School as responsible adults who are able to be successful in whatever path they choose to take.

Three years ago, Ms. Landers started a running club as part of our after school enrichment program and each November she organizes an annual Fun Run for the students, faculty, and community members. Ms. Landers also encourages project-based learning. This school year, her 6th grade students created their own business where they did market research, created questionnaires, organized data, established an action plan, promoted & advertised their business, presented a pitch to investors, and after making a profit, gave back to their school and those in need.

Ms. Landers is an outstanding teacher who is devoted to seeing all students succeed. Because of her authentic teaching methods and commitment to her students, Ms. Landers has been named the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year for Arnett.
